Clinic appointments vary between 10 minutes and 30 minutes in length so it is helpful if you can let our receptionists know what type of appointment you wish to make.
Ante-Natal and Post-Natal Care (Tuesday PM)
We provide both ante-natal and post-natal care in the practice. The midwife contacts all women soon after a pregnancy is confirmed to arrange antenatal care. She will provide advice throughout pregnancy including information about prenatal tests and options for delivery. The community midwife also looks after women in labour and for the first 10 days following the birth. The doctor carries out post-natal checks six weeks after delivery. Appointments are arranged by our reception team.
A chiropodist attends the surgery once a month and we can also refer patients to the chiropody centre at Hawkeys Lane, North Shields. As well as treating skin and nail problems, the chiropodist can advise on painful conditions affecting the feet. This is a limited service and is not available for routine nail cutting. Appointments are made following referral from the doctor.
Our physiotherapist holds a weekly clinic to assess acute musculo-skeletal injuries and gives advice and treatment for back, neck and other joint problems. Appointments are made following referral from the doctor.
Our dietician holds a clinic once a month and woks with our practice nurses to run our obesity and weight management clinics. She is also able to give advice on special diets for chronic diseases e.g. celiac disease/ swallowing disorders/ vitamin deficiencies. She can plan special diets for example to reduce high cholesterol or cope with food allergies. Appointments are made following referral from the doctor.

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
Travel Health Questionnaire
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the attached form before coming to see the nurse. She will check the form in advance and contact you with details of which vaccinations you will require and how much they will cost. You can email the form in advance or print it and hand in to reception. Please contact the surgery after a week if you have not received a phone call from us.
